NIKOLAS' MONSTER

LOG ENTRY #01

Author: Dr. Nikolas Frytz Klatlberg
Date: 1483 – Tota 3

The Device is complete—finally, a way to record my thoughts—uninterrupted. I did not hire an scribe—I couldhave, but I refuse—I refuse to let anyone, especially those lesser minds, gain access to mybrilliance. Their hands are far too clumsy, their minds are far too dull. They can't grasp the complexity of my words.

This machine will capture my ideas, write each and every word one by one, in the purest form, without the interference of incompetent scribes. No longer will I risk mygenius on those who cannot comprehend it.

Work on a Transmutation Circle has begun. Siphons are needed to calibrate and prevent feedback, metals are too unstable, so I'll try organic matter instead. A simple experiment, but it will have to do.

LOG ENTRY #186

Why? Why? WHY is it not working? Everything is aligned perfectly—the siphons, the bearings, everything! Why is this happening?

This is impossible. I will not fail. I will make it work.

A—uhmm—minorsetback. An accident occurred with the conduit during calibration. The feedback was far more intense than anticipated… gods, it hurts. The energy discharge severed three fingers.

It is… excruciating, and distracting, but I must endure it.

The question is… how to proceed? Flesh is an option. I could graft replacements. Human tissue might suffice for now. I should begin to grow cells as soon as possible.

I required a few ounces of a concentrated poison solution for my latest project—nothing complex, a simple task for my alchemy jug. I adjusted the formula, calibrated the ratios… and inserted the liquid. I waited for the poison to come out, but instead of the liquid, I received… a blob? It seems to be a gelatinous substance. I don't want to risk touching it.

What could have gone wrong? I’ve used this solute multiple times before, yet this is the only time it has given me this…thing.

The… thingmoved!?

I left to retrieve the necessary tools to dispose of it, and the thing fuckingmoved. I don't see it anywhere, I can't believe it

...

I see the gelatinous blob under my table.

It seems to… run away when I approach it.

Is? Is it alive!?

It seems to be.

I managed to lure the blob out with some cheese.

By Partinax…

It's alive! At least, I thinkit is.

I—I'm sorry, I should be talking more, I'm just… amazed that I made a living organism.

I will run some tests on it later in the afternoon.

It's been a year since the slime first appeared. In that time, I have begun to train the slime. It is … sentient, not really intelligent, but that can change. I have it doing tasks around the house—washing flasks, bringing equipment, cleaning spills, I've even taught it how to speak and read. It is usefulto keep around, certainly more than having to hire those townspeople. I’ve tried replicating the process I used to create it, but all attempts seem to be… unsuccessful.

It is extremely curious, almost to an annoyinglevel. It seems so far beneath me to answer its questions, yet I do. Maybe it's because I made it—not in a paternalway, but more like how I see the rest of my inventions. I’ve heard of other inventors struggling to make humanoid machines—like warforged—yet I'vecreated a sentient and organic machine.

It is infuriating. I can't even ask it to do a simple task, all it had to do was tether the light amplifier to my phylactery. I gave him a simple task, and it still managed to fuck it up

Itbroke my phylactery, itbroke my light amplifier, and iteven broke the flasks and vases around it.

This is the third time it's messed up a simple task I gave it. My inventions have been delayed for weeks because of its stupidity,

It seems impossible to teach it anything. I waste my time teaching him about my inventions and my work.
