Herb and Peggle arrive at Macabrell, where a security check introduces them to Ferrous Graylung and his giant rat, Mousse. Imps and a Combatant of Conquest attack. A hot blond man named Rusty descends from the crenellation and slices all the demons with his arm. Inside Macabrell they explore, then descend into the sewers where a firbolg named Thoract plays a song Herb recognizes — one Laura taught him. Thoract tasks Herb with speaking to his wife Pandora. Deeper in the sewers they find a peculiar shop run by a creature called Gimic.
Blobert, Herb, Peggle, and Baxter fight Mr. V. After killing the Crystalline Husk he summons, Mr. V attempts to blow them all up by charging the Edelith Pods. Blobert sees his chance — he has Peggle throw him toward the pod. He catches it and detonates, saving the party at the cost of his own life.
Blobert and Herb navigate a dark maze while Peggle guides them from above as a giant corrosion droplet gives chase. They solve the maze near death and sleep in the cavern. During watch, Baylis visits, asks about the Edelith Pods, then leaves. By morning the pods are gone — Baylis leaves a note telling them to meet him at "his lady's temple."
The party discovers a second Dodecahedron guarded by Crystalline Husks. Placing it on a pedestal unlocks a door. Inside: Mr. V, who reveals he stole the pods and plans to raid Edelith to kill General Strom. The party refuses to cooperate.
Blobert, Peggle, Herb, Baxter, and Eight arrive at the Obsidian Crystallis. They solve a rune puzzle and discover the second Edelith Pod, then follow a path of light into a cave full of Crystalline Husks. A Crystal Salamander carrying a purple dodecahedron flees. They defeat two Gem Stalkers that drop from the ceiling, chase down the salamander, and place the dodecahedron on a pedestal — unlocking a room containing statues of the six gods: Annuatera, Hiebrief, Partirnax, Solidaritus, Totarash, and Aurelia.
The party defeats Imps while an Edelith Pod withers. Wandering into an old village, they find a strange swirl of sand — the residents have become Dust Dregs with no memories. On watch, Herb spots Budd, son of Mr. V, on his way to meet his father. The party convinces him to return home. The next morning, they set out toward the next Pod location.
The party wakes surrounded by Corrosion Droplets. With help from Skrapp and Svahn they fight their way through, then find the town overrun with corrosion. General Strom brushes off their concern and sends them to retrieve Edelith Pods. En route, they find a dead Cherubrim with a Pod on its head. Freeing it releases a corrosion-laden train that crashes into the Carriage Kin, killing them — and unleashing Imps from nearby caves.
The party fights Gambol, leader of Piroulette, and beats him. Before the killing blow, he reveals he only wanted to leave Tarpaul Pit and asks them to broker trade between the settlement and Edelith. The party, realising they were in the wrong, confronts Mr. V, who withdraws his support. They leave. Before sleeping, they speak to Amalie about the Edelith Pods' locations.
Blobert and Herb collect their enchanted weapons. The blacksmith warns them about the Carriage Kin along the ravine. Blobert ignites a wine barrel mid-negotiation and clears most of the gang with a Firebolt scroll. Khan Duster, the leader, explains they only stole to rebuild corrosion-eaten homes — the party apologizes and lets him go.
An informant — revealed to be Soko — points them to Piroulette's base. They free a tied-up man who turns out to be Budd. An illusion of fire scatters the gang, but when Budd slips out a back door he is immediately recaptured — brought back in by a red Aarakocra named Gambol.
Blobert, Peggle, and Baxter fight the Carriage Kin while Baxter accidentally falls into a ravine — a prolonged effort finally gets him back up. After clearing the gang, the blacksmith offers to enchant their weapons. While waiting, they visit the shopping district and find a magical staff and a Scroll of Fireball.
They meet Baylis's contact: a greenhouse caretaker called Mr. V. He offers safe passage to Edelith in exchange for one Edelith Pod and the elimination of the rival gangs Strom intends to empower. The party accepts.
Blobert, Peggle, and Herb finally enter Tarpaul Pit. Baylis escorts them to meet General Strom, where they are reunited with Baxter and Eight — who had been apprehended by Strom's watchmen. Strom tasks the party with collecting Edelith Pods in exchange for safe passage to Edelith. At an inn they meet a goblin named Soko, who throws a bottle at Eight. In the morning, they head to the local blacksmith and find a gang harassing him.
Blobert, Peggle, and Herb exit the church and venture forward. They encounter a dragonborn named Baylis — a survivor of the colossal battle, leading the remnants of the Winds of the Waste. He advises them to make for Tarpaul Pit before Edelith. Along the way they pick up a small kobold named Skrapp. Pressing on, the group is attacked by Dust Dregs and defeats them.
Blobert, Peggle, Herb, and Baxter — a small gnome who followed them through the Shroud — sprint toward a church protected by Runes as a Cherubrim and a Construct of Conquest battle beside them. They make it inside. The church belongs to Totarash.
Blobert, Herb, Peggle, and Eight wait for their guide, Charon. His metallic hand glows with searing pain — the way through the Shroud is near. During a sandstorm crossing, a massive mechanical demon tears a hole in the Shroud with a giant arrow. Charon orders the party through now.
Scavengers swarm from the sand. A brutal fight breaks out. Peggle rages, Blobert deploys a turret, Eight fires Chaos Bolts. The scavenger leader wounds Blobert badly. Charon slips. Peggle and Eight hold the line while Herb heals. Blobert's turret fires — the projectile melts sand to glass as it passes Herb's head and buries itself in the leader's chest. The last scavenger tries to flee. Herb's gaze freezes him. One final turret shot ends it.
Through the Shroud, blinded by its light, the party finds themselves in a chapel. A snarling fills the air. The mechanical demon has followed them in — and from above, a blinding celestial descends to meet it. The party is trapped between a demonic archer and an angelic guardian.
